Advanced Winding Processes for Cylindrical Cells

HUGUET BATTERY PROCESSES focuses on the design, manufacturing, and installation of battery assembly equipment. Continuously striving for performance, HUGUET BATTERY PROCESSES supports battery manufacturers in optimizing their manufacturing processes through innovation.

Our mission

Flexible assembly systems for pouch and prismatic cell development.

Precision winding systems for pilot and industrial production of modern cell architectures.

The cylindrical format remains one of the most established architectures in the battery industry, combining mechanical robustness with mature assembly processes and proven safety. Huguet Battery Processes has developed and continues to refine winding equipment for both pilot and industrial‑scale manufacturing, covering cell formats from 18650 to 70140.

Our machines cover the full sequence of electrode preparation and winding operations, with optional modules depending on process requirements for standard tabbed formats (jelly‑roll diameters from 18 to 32 mm).

Our winding solutions can also be adapted for tabless designs, increasingly popular since the introduction of the 4680 cell format.

At the heart of our winding systems, specific mechanical designs and automation sequences have been developed to ensure proper tension and alignment of each component from start to finish, precise cutting without particle generation, and the preservation of jelly‑roll integrity during spindle retraction.

Dynamic tension control continuously adjusts each reel cathode, separator, and anode to accommodate materials with delicate or uneven mechanical characteristics.

To address the diversity of production needs, our modular approach allows integration of only the required operations — from standalone winding units to complete lines including encapsulation, top‑cap welding, and visual inspection.

Multi‑mandrel configurations provide high productivity while maintaining tight dimensional tolerances, with some of our current solutions already achieving production rates between 10 and 30 cells per minute.

For advanced laboratories and prototyping, compact machines are being engineered to deliver 1–2 cells per minute.

The purpose is to provide a versatile solution capable of covering the full range of cylindrical cell designs.

One of our active development directions is the integration of progressive laser notching, enabling a future range of winding equipment to address all wound‑cell configurations.

This will support diameters from 18 to 70 mm and jelly‑roll heights from 50 to 140 mm — a practical platform to validate new materials and winding concepts under production‑like conditions.

All Huguet Battery Processes winding systems share the same foundations: process stability, adaptability, and energy‑efficient operation — enabling our customers to scale their technologies with confidence.
